WE ARE, AS IT APPEARS IN LOVE WITH WHAT'S COMING OUR WAY

WE ARE, AS IT APPEARS IN LOVE WITH WHAT'S COMING OUR WAY

Even though we ambled along together for nearly five years as of this fall, and that all Nadia's features I'd recognize sideways and upwards awakening quickly under my loving gaze, I can't decide whether this growing phrase should continue or else should stop as soon as possible. I'm not talking subtle changes here and there, it's happening on a greater scale than I can proceed with. Those things aren't new to me as they've transitioned from long-awaited expressions maturing as the time went by: conversations begin with well thought out sentences although I still see Nadia struggling having more thoughts on her mind than her vocabulary allows to produce, her eyes are serious and her requests deeper. Soon enough she'll claim every memory of it.

I had a visitor, worn out by climbing two flights of stairs one springtime afternoon. She sat at the dining table asking for milky tea. Then she greeted Nadia with a jolly hello and asked for her name but Nadia remained silent so she turned to me asking if my daughter was a little shy. Guided by her question I kept studying Nadia's face but she didn't look shy at all even if this word springs to my mind every so often. Something became clear to me as I saw curious eyes you're far from calling shy, she stood there, a little unsure but eager to play with her toys nonetheless watching my diploma assessor doing her job. Children of that age hold on to every excuse not to answer if they don't feel like and although it is nice to be polite, I instinctively let Nadia decide about the approach she was comfortable with. It wasn't always like this, I explained her silence a couple of times before or asked her to respond to the question unaware of a lot of things that I am preparing her for that way. She's not shy, in the first minutes of finding herself in a new situation, she diplomatically studies every possible maneuver to get along with others therefore she may be seen as indecisive and shy but her love for excitement and the unusual eventually steps out repeated if necessary to everyone involved. I'm wide awake for all that is shaping up in this little girl by building my days around more of it coming our way. xx
